Laquita Jones – Candidate for School Board, District 2



 Born and raised in Memphis, Laquita Jones is a proud graduate of Carver High School. After graduation, she pursued a career in healthcare, where she built extensive experience in clinical healthcare management, nursing recruitment, communications, and human resources management. 


As a devoted mother, Jones has always been deeply engaged in her children’s education. She and her daughters are proud products of Shelby County Schools. Her daughters graduated from Central High (Grahamwood, Idlewild, Snowden), White Station High (Peabody, Idlewild, Snowden), and Whitehaven High School. Jones has led several Parent Teacher Association (PTA) as president and Vice President for several years, and participated on multiple school leadership councils and boards. Her active involvement underscores her belief that parents, teachers, school employees, district officials, and community leaders achieve more when they work together.


Beyond her career, Jones has dedicated countless hours as a volunteer and advocate of education, higher education and community equality. Over the past decade, she has spoken at countless schools, graduations, women’s summits, summer programs, financial literacy camps, and youth workshops—including UCAN of Memphis, Dare2Dream Annual Conference, Black Girls Dream Conference, Rise Memphis, Influenc-HER Women’s Conference, and the Memphis Urban League Young Professionals. Through these efforts, she has inspired the next generation of leaders across Memphis.


Her leadership and impact have been widely recognized. She has received community and leadership proclamations and certificates of service from city and county mayors, a proclamation from Governor Bill Lee, the HERoine Legacy Award, five Best in Black Awards, the Superior PTA Dedication and Service Award, and the NIM Outstanding Community Leadership Award. She has been featured on local television networks and highlighted in numerous magazines. As a five-time self-published author, she has also been recognized as an Amazon Rising Author.


In addition to her advocacy, Jones is the founder of several initiatives and events that uplift the Memphis community. These include:


Girls, Gifts, and Goals – empowering young women to embrace their potential.


Pencils for a Purpose – ensuring students have essential tools during critical testing periods.



Annual community projects such as the Turkey Giveaway for the Elderly, Homeless Swag Bags, and READ Memphis. Jail East Life Skills Program – helping women develop tools for reentry and empowerment.


Food Voucher and Utility Assistance Programs – offering relief and resources to families in need.


A successful business owner, Jones continues to invest her time, resources, and energy into initiatives that strengthen families and neighborhoods.


She has also served as a caregiver to her young siblings after the passing of her mother and as a foster parent—experiences that deepened her resilience and strengthened her passion for supporting children and families.


At her core, Laquita Jones is a life-long community activist who gives generously of her time and talents. She continues to lead by example, demonstrating that real change comes from dedicated service, strong leadership, and an unwavering belief in the power of education.
